Article 20 By-Law Changes

Last year during the General Meeting at the 2008 Atlanta Nationals a motion was made to appoint a committee tasked to review Article 20 of our Class By-Laws, National Championship Regatta.  That committee has been appointed and their recommendations for changes are in this issue of the Flyer.

The recommendations are a result of unanimous agreement among the committee members.  That committee consisted of: Amanda Hodges, Atlanta, GA Chairperson, Wil Hanckel, Charleston, SC, Dave Irons, Mattoon, IL, Steve Roeschlein, Indianapolis, IN, and Anthony Passifume, Nashville, TN.
Please read, review and, ruminate on these recommendations. They will be brought up at the General Meeting at the 2009 Indianapolis Nationals. They will be voted on and sent out for a mail vote after this year’s Nationals.

Please comment! Send your comments to the committee members or myself. A link has been created on the Class website (www.yflyer.org) to make this as simple and convenient as possible. Comment to your fellow Y sailors, talk about the proposals at regatta’s, and debate them, a little friendly discussion never hurt. The committee members welcome your input, opinions, and comments. They will gladly review all of the options they are presented with. They want to get this right.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Modifications to the proposal must be made prior to the 2009 General Meeting. To avoid a meeting that will last all night, the committee chairman will present the proposal at the meeting. They will be discussed and voted on. At this time no motions to change what is presented will be allowed. If you want to see additional changes to Article 20 you need to talk to the committee.

For a mail vote to change the by-laws we require that 2/3 of the people responding vote to approve the change. A simple majority is not enough. Every vote matters and is important.

Sincerely,
Kevin Black
AYFYRA Class President
